[WIP] The last of the Prussians
At last, the painting phase is finished, with the last 2 musketeer units:
So, to finish this commission, I just have to base the units, and voila! I should finish them tomorrow, and deliver the army friday night. the root beer will flow! Yay!
Bon, l'armée prussienne est pratiquement terminée. Les deux dernières unités sont peintes, et j'en aiprofité pour commencer le soclage. Si je continue ainsi, demain, tout est terminé, et je ferai la livraison vendredi soir.

[AAR] Bloody D-Day
Last week we started our Normandy campaign, with a grand opening: a landing AND a para fight. The scenarios were 1/ Gold Beach , Jig sector, and the battle around Ste-Marie du Mont.
Pour inaugurer la campagne Normandie, nous avons joué deux scénarios: Gold Beach, et les combats autour de Ste Marie du Mont.
Let's start with the landing. After the preleminary bombardment, the "german" garrison, comprised of 2 georgian companies, were pinned down. The first landing approched, with 2 british rifles companies from the 251st brigade, and a support from the Royal Engineers, whose task was to clear a way through the only road from the beach. Easy task? Well, the beach wad mined, and 3 Mg bunkers were controlling the strand, plus a pak 38 bunker and a pak 40, in enfilade, near the sanatorium in le Hamel.
La plage est très bien défendue, avec des bunkers antichar et MG qui la prennent en enfilade. Le bombardement naval ne fut pas très efficace, et les Géorgiens, en garnison, ont rapidement repris leurs esprits, hélas...
The current was strong and the british units didn't land at their expected point. the Georgian reacted quickly, too quickly for the british's taste, and the first casualties layed on the beach. Rapidly, the troops were poinned down, trying to protect themselves against the seawall.
The following wave of troops added some tank support from the 79th brigade, and the Roayl marines commandos, but the fire coming from the bunkers took their toll, and the tanks were lighted up very rapidly. To add to this mess, heavy shells coming from inland batteries started to fall over the crowded beach...
Yes, it was hell...
Le courant trop fort a déporté les unités de la première vague: les Royal engineers sont trop loin de leur objectif, et les compagnies de rifles débarquent devant les bunkers... un massacre en perspective...
But the men were brave, and under heavy fire, they started to adapt their actions: the commandos moved to destroy the bunkers, under cover from the rifles, who were taking most of the shooting. Meanwhile, more tanks were landing, destroyed one by one from the deadly pak40 bunker...
Fortunately, some Typhoons were circling, and tried to confuse the ennemy infantry...
As the hours passed, the British moved slowly, clearing each obstacle after another... But at what cost? The sherman crab were burning, detroyed by the At guns covering the inland way, in their trench... 2 companies were destroyed...
Mais c'était sans compter sur le courage et le flegme anglais... Les chars et les commandos,débarqués dans les vagues suivantes, malgré les pertes, commencent à s'adapter et décident de s'attaquer aux bunkers. Le pak 40, en enfilade sur la plage, prélève toutefois un très lourd tribut. Les chars flambent les uns après les autres...
and then... german reinforcements from Kampfgruppe Meyer arrived, with two Stugs and a company...
Was it the end? No! the commandos, after a hard beating, destroyed at last the bunkers, and started to clear the village of le Hamel, followed by more tanks and wasps, whose flame-thrower proved useful against entrenched men... The newly landed sherman and firefly started a tank fight against the Stugs, and destroyed them... When the day was over, the beach was secured, troops were pouring through the openings... But the fight wasn't over. The Georgian weren't too beaten and could continue the fight... So, a bloody draw for this landing. the fight for Caen and Bayeux will be hard.
Moment grave: des renforts allemands du kampfgruppe Meyer arrivent et ajoutent au massacre. La plage est embouteillée, et des obus tirés depuis l'intérieur des terres déciment les compagnies... Deux d'entre elles sont mises au tapis. Les commandos, malgré les pertes continuent leur combat, et finissent par détruire les bunkers, ouvrant la voie aux chars, avant de commencer à nettoyer le village du Hamel.
La journée tire à sa fin quand la plage est enfin quittée. Les wasp et leurs lance-flamme se révèlent utiles pour nettoyer les premières tranchées... Bref, en fin de journée la plage est dégagée, mais les combats continuent... La route de Caen est loin d'être ouverte...
The second table was located in the sector of Ste-Marie du Mont, in the dropzone of the 101st, near Utah Beach.
Von der Heydte, commanding the 6th Fallshirmjäger, was determined to destroy the American paratroopers before the troops from the beach arrived... Hard task. He had 2 companies, plus a Stug and a marder... and a company of Osttruppen... As usual, the german attacked hard and fast. the Osttruppen were left behind, with some panzerfausten, to try to slow down the incoming Americans, while the Fallshirmjäger advanced...
Von der Heydte, du haut du clocher de Ste-Marie du Mont, vit la gigantesque armada alliée se diriger vers le plages... Ce ne sont plus de simples paras qu'il faut éliminer, mais faire face à une invasion... Qu'a-t-il à disposition? 2 compagnies de Fallshirmjäger, 1 Stug, 1 Marder et quelques Osttruppen... C'est bien peu, mais en agissant vite,il avait une chance de liquider la menace para avant de se retourner vers les troupes débarquant.
Il ne perdit pas de temps, et laissa les Osttruppen en arrière, pour ralentir les troupes de la plage, tandis que ses troupes attaqueraient concentrées les pauvres paras US éparpillés...
The poor 101 was scattered, and could do nothing against such a powerful attack... But, as the sky cleared, the mighty Razorbacks started to drop loads of rockets and 12.7mm bullets over the German... the marder exploded like a water balloon, and the Stug was immobilized. Halas, it wasn't enough to slow down the german advance... and many paratroopers were slaughtered, despite real acts of bravery...
Ce fut un massacre. Malgré leur courage, les Américains ne purent stopper la furor Gothicus, et ils furent tués ou capturés les uns après les autres, après de rudes combats... Heureusement pour eux, le ciel, remplis de P-47, était une vraie menace. Le Marder explosa, et le Stug fut immobilisé, présentant un flanc aux shermans arrivant enfin, mais trop tard, de la plage.
As the day went on, reinforcements came in: shermans and mecanized infantry, which rushed up to assist the remnants of the 101. Too late...
They tried to take the road to Carentan, but Panzerfaust fire destroyed a sherman... It was a minor german victory, but, if the scenario had a few more turns, it would have ended in an American victory, because the Germans didn't have anymore At support...
Les troupes US tentèrent de prendre la direction de Carentan, mais les Osttruppen veillaient,et détruisirent le sherman de tête.
Bref, courte victoire allemande, mais si le scénario avait duré plus longtemps, les Américains auraient gagné, car les Allemands n'avaient plus de moyens antichar... La campagne s'annonce rude pour les Alliés.

[WIP] D-Day, H minus 3
Ok, my troops are ready to land tonight! I've just finished flocking the bases, and the game start at 8pm. they will fight for Gold Beach, in the Jig sector, with the support of the 47th Royal Marines commando! Yay! They should fight against poor Georgians. Ah, an easy target... I hope so... We will play with Blitzkrieg, a french set of rules, quite similar to Squad Leader. I'll post the After Action Report soon, I promise.
Dans 3 heures, toutes ces troupes vont débarquer... A Gold Beach, secteur Jig, avec l'aide du 47e Royal Marines commando. Ils devraient théoriquement affronter des Géorgiens en garnison sur l'Atlantik wall... Une promenade de santé, quoi... Quoique...
En tout cas, il devrait y avoir 8 joueurs autour de la table... Ca va chauffer! Et bien sûr, vous aurez droit à un beau compte-rendu, sur votre règle préférée ^^

[WIP] D-Day -2
Friday night, I will officially launch a Normandy campaign in my club. The first big scenario is... a landing, on the British side. I already have a company and tanks, but I needed an other one. Well, the task is almost done: the paintig phase is over for my infantry, and I just need to add some detailing (maybe some weathering too if I have the time to do it) to my "heavy" units.
18 infantry bases (including the supports). Now, everything they need is a coat of varnish and some flocking...
Et voilà. A deux jours du gros scénario Blitzkrieg d'introduction à ma campagne Normandie, ma compagnie anglaise est terminée. Il ne me reste plus qu' à la vernir et rajouter le flocage.
Et mes 2 brenn carrier et mes 2 sherman DD sont peints eux aussi; il ne reste plus que quelques détails à faire, et peut-être, si j'ai le temps, un peu de weathering.
Au fait: ENCORE UN PROJET TERMINE!!!!!
Je suis trop fort. Il ne me reste plus que l'armée prussienne. Je vais donc pouvoir en commencer un autre...

[AAR] Pyrrhus à Clichy- samedi/ Pyrrhus in Clichy
Last week-end I was in Clichy, attending an antic-medieval tournament, Art de la guerre. We were 12, everyone with an antic army. I played two games on saturday.
My first battle was against Michel Acloque and his Sassanid Army, full of elefants and cataphracts. Damn. the first game for my pyrrhic army and I must confront a very powerful army. anyway. I gain the intiative and i choose to fight in the mountains, with brushes and step hills... to try to amper down his mobility...
Pour ma première bataille à Clichy, je rencontre Michel Acloque et ses Sassanides, bourrés d'unités élite. J'essaie de truffer le terrain d'obstacles.
Tha Sassanids are on the left: The elefants and his poor infantry are on his left flank, the elite clibanari on the center, and the cataphracts on his right.
So, I choose to rush to his left flank with my infatry and elefants, and to refuse my left flank with the phalanxes.
il déploie ses éléphants indiens et son infanterie sur sa gauche (ce sera ma cible); ses cavalerie lourde arc élite au centre, et ses cataphractes sur son flanc droit.

I have the initiative and move first, right at his throat... with my medium foot. The Phalanx is forming up on my left, ready to counter the cavalry threat.
J'obtiens l'initiative et je fonce vers l'infanterie ennemie avec mes Bruttiens et mes éléphants, tandis que je refuse mon flanc gauche avec ma phalange médiocre.
The Bruttians deploy to outflank the ennemy elefants...
Je me déploie pour flanquer le corps sassanide.
I'm in a very good position on his left... But my light cavalry won't be able to stop the mounted archers and clibanari...
Je maîtrise mal mon armée, et je laisse un trou se former: ma cavalerie légère sera incapable de tenir face à toute cette cavalerie adverse.
The cataphracts charge the phalanx. And I make a big mistake: My reserve cavalry, which was int he center, is sent on my left flank to attack the flanks of the cataphracts, leaving a forming gap in the center...
Michel lance ses charges; je tiens mais j'exploite très mal: j'ai une réserve de cavalerie mais je l'envoie du mauvais côté: j'aurais dû l'envoyer au centre...
Meanwhile, despite my superiority, I don't have the upper hand in the melee ...
Le pire est que malgré ma supériorité, je ne le détruis pas assez vite sur sa gauche. Résultat, défaite logique 23 points à 14. Snif.
So... How did my first game went? I managed to destroy 14 points of the Sassanid army (which demoralized at 20). But at the same time, the cataphracts destroyed a part of my phalanx, and his cavalry flanked my medium foot, because of my mistake, their flank was unprotected... So, it's a logical loss.
Second game: Christophe Molière and his Arménians, with a hun ally... Very cool guy, and very fun game.
Deuxième partie, je joue contre Christophe Molière et ses Arméniens: c'est un mec super sympa, on s'est bien amusé.
Pauvre Christophe, si tu savais ce qui t'attends...
Once again, I have the initiative. His cataphracts are on his right, the Huns in the center, and, between a steep hill and brush, his infantry, some catafracts and his baggage... They will be my goal, because my elefants and infantry LOVE to fight in the brushes ^^.
Le choix du terrain m'est encore favorable. Le terrain est compartimenté de son côté, avec une colline escarpée. De plus, sur mon flanc droit, deux broussailles. Chic. Et deuxième effet kiss-cool, il place ses bagages et son corps d'infanterie dans ce petit espace. Yes! Il est coincé, et je vais lancer mon infanterie et mes babars dessus. Ma phalange couvrira mon flanc gauche comme auparavant.
Once again, I rush towards the "weak" Armenian corps, while the phalanx is deploying to protect my left flank.
Cette fois-ci je ne fais l'erreur de laisser les piquiers loin derrière, et je maintiens systématiquement la pression, empêchant Christophe de manoeuvrer...
The Huns try to désorganise the pikemen...
Il me balance quelques tirs, amis c'est insuffisant, et ma cavalerie veille à l'arrière en cas de trou...

Pendant ce temps, on s'étripe joyeusement... Et on s'envoie des mots fleuris...

Dois-je ajouter un commentaire? la supériorité a joué en ma faveur cette fois-ci.
As you can see, I pressed forward with my phalnx to avoid beeing outmanoeuvered; my cavalry stayed in the center to act as a reserve, which payed off: the result was a victory. The Armenians routed, and their catafracts never charged (phew). I lost 16 points from 23. It was a great game. i had a real feeling for my army.
Photo finale: ma phalange a bien avancé, empêchant les manoeuvres arméniennes, d'autant plus que leur commandement n'est pas terrible. Bref, belle victoire, mais à la Pyrrhus (normal) car j'ai perdu 16 points.

The army's philosphy/ conception de l'armée
I wanted a choc based army, to press forward and suppress the ennemy's abitlity to manoeuver. So I chose an army with good commanders, and fast infantry units.
Je voulais une armée basée sur le choc et la rapidité, pour empêcher l'adversaire de manoeuvrer.
- The first corps has
8 poor phalanxes, to refuse a flank against cavalry armies, or to get cheap but powerful units if in deep formations
2 elite impact cavalry and 1 medium cavalry, to act as a reserve.
1er corps:
8 phalanges médiocres, pour former une lognue ligne anti-cav, ou bien avoir de belles unités puissantes en ordre profond
2 cavaleries impact élite et 1 cavalerie moyenne, pour jouer en réserve
- The 2nd corps:
2 medium spearmen,
1 psiloi
1 elefant
2 light horses with javelin.
Its purpose is to act as a liaison between 1st and 3rd corps, and to add some melee power in case of need.
2e corps:
2 lanciers moyens
1 psiloi
1 éléphant
2 Lh avec javelot
C'est un corps de liaison entre le 1er et le 3e corps.
- 3rd corps:
2 medium elite infantry
2 medium infantry
1 psiloi
1 elefant
it's the "fast" attack corps, whose purpose is to rush towards the weak point of the ennemy, using terrain to do so. the elite units and the elefant also give some staying power in flat terrain.
3e corps:
2 MI élite
2 MI
1 psiloi
1 éléphant
C'est le corps d'attaque rapide, qui doit foncer sur le point faible adverse, en utilisant le terrain. Les élite et l'éléphant ont également suffisamment de puissance pour combattre en terrain découvert.

[WIP] Let's go lads
Yesterday, my britsh company was based. Today, they get their precious undercoat. I wanted to gain some speed, so I used the brown undercoat from Army painter. I just bought it last sunday à Clichy, between two games, at Alex from Comitatus. Very nice guy! While I chatted with him, I saw its offer for magnet sheets. Well, I bought 10 of them for 30€. Yay, now I'm prepared.
Erm, back to the company. With did I use the brown undercoat? Easy:
- the british battledress is quite of brown-ish, so, it will be perfect after a devland mud wash
- brown is good for the flesh color base
- I use brown colors for the bases: after all we're in Normandy, and, in June, it's rather muddy. So, there again, it will be perfect after a lighter drybrush (stone grey from Prince August).
I should be able to start the real painting during the day.
Les choses sérieuses commencent. Après avoir basé mes 18 éléments hier, je viens de les sous-coucher en marron, avec une bombe Army Painter achetée chez Alex de Comitatus. Je pense que j'ai fait le bon choix car:
- l'uniforme anglais a une base marron. Donc, hop, un coup de devland mud et c'est bon.
- le marron, c'est bon pourla base de la couleur chair.
- la couleur que j'utilise pour les socles est le marron, donc c'est parfait pour la Normandie.
Bref, un bon gros gain de temps ^^ Et du coup, je devrais pouvoir commencencer la peinture cet après-midi.

300!!!
Today is my 300th post! Wow, I'm quite impressed myself. But I have no time to celebrate. The clock is ticking and my british rifle company won't paint itself. I've decided to go for the taylorist approch, aka speed painting. The minis were glued yesterday, and now they're based!

I really like the PIAT in firing positon. the Peter Pig are really great minis.
Aujourd'hui, je célèbre mon 300e billet. J'avoue être assez fier de moi, plus de 2 ans de mises à jour. Mais je ne peux m'attarder sur cet exploit, car ma compagnie anglaise pour Blitzkrieg doit être prête pour la semaine prochaine. J'ai donc opté pour l'approche tayloriste du travail à la chaîne. L'expression existe chez les blogurinistes: le speed painting. Hier la compagnie a été collée sur ses socles, aujourd'hui j'ai texturé les socles, avec la roche liquide Prince August. Théoriquement, demain, je sous-couche.

[WIP] Compagnie anglaise
Well, the Art de la guerre tournament is over. We were 12, and I ended at the 5th rank. Not bad for my new army. Pyrrhus is a really good theme, very powerful, and very fun to play because of the losses ^^.
But now I have a new project. In 9 days, I'll launch a 1944-Normandy campaign at my club. And the first scenario is... A british landing. So, I have a british company to paint for this event.
We will use a French ruleset, Blitzkrieg, to recreate the battles. It's quite similar to ASL, but a bit simpler. And it's fun to play, with opportunity fire ^^. A company is made from 10 bases+ supports. The minis come mainly from Battlefront (british platoon), but, since I've just received my Peter Pig order, I've added 3 PIATs, 2 HMGs and 2 3" mortars.
Bon, le tournoi de Clichy s'est bien passé. J'ai terminé 5e avec 2 victoires, 1 défaite et 1 match nul. Pas mal pour une armée nouvellement peinte, et entièrement tournée vers le choc.
Allez, on change complètement de sujet, avec le début de peinture de ma compagnie anglaise pour la campagne Blitzkrieg, qui débutera le 9 octobre. Pour ça, j'ai soclé des figs Battlefront et un peu de Peter Pig que je viens juste de recevoir. Ca me fait un total de 18 socles à faire. Weppee!

les petits derniers
I hadn't shown you the final 3 units of my hellenistic army yesterday, for a good reason: there are too many spies, and I wanted to make a big surprise at the tournament today. So, while I'm gaming, you can now see the final 3 ( no, they're not cylons)...
Comment ça je suis pas fair-play? ok, il me restait 3 unités à vous montrer de mon armée hellénistique. Mais je voulais reserver la surprise à mes adversaires pour aujourd'hui. Du coup, vous les voyez en même temps qu'eux.
2 unités de lanciers moyens, et un second éléphant. Et ce que vous voyez en plus, c'est une partie du 3e corps, avec un général brillant.
Essex ne fait pas de thureophores. J'ai donc utilisé des Thorakitai ( à droite) et des Argyraspides équipés à la romaine (à gauche). Dès que je peux, j'arrange ça.
L'éléphant est un Chariot.
The two thureophoroi units are in fact thorakitai and Argyraspides from Essex. The elefant is from Chariot.

1 de moins, 1 de plus.
Ok, my hellenistic army is now flocked and varnished: well, it's a finished project guys! I will test it for the time tomorrow, in real tournament conditions. I had fun painting it.
Voilà, mon armée hellenistique est maintenant officiellement terminée. Elle sera donc jouée dès demain à Clichy.
Il me restait en core quelques unités à terminer de baser. Mais je ne peux les montrer pour le moment, à cause des espions ^^ demain c'est promis, vous verrez la fin de l'armée.
Et comme un projet est terminé, il est temps de passer à un autre: ma compagnie anglaise pour Bliktzkrieg. J'ai 2 semaines pour la peindre...
En attendant, j'ai sous-couché les 3 dernières unités de cavalerie prussienne.
One project down, a new one's up: I have two weeks to paint a british company for Bliztkrieg rules system (another French one): about 36 figs plus maybe some vehicules. Yeppeeeeee! Anyway. I've also undercoated 3 units of prussian cavalry.
